Podcasting Resources & Guides

Part of the success in podcasting (and most things in life) depends on continuing to move forward. It is a lot of work to continue to publish an episode week after week, and that hard work should be celebrated.

Milestone podcast episodes, like your 50th or 100th, are a great time to do that. It is also a great time to mix things up and try a new episode format.

So if you have an upcoming milestone episode, what are some ways to shake things up, make it a memorable episode, and celebrate all the hard work you and your team have put in? Here are 11 ideas:

1. Reflect on the Journey

Share impactful or funny moments from past episodes. You can add soundbites and provide commentary. Discuss how the podcast has evolved and the lessons learned along the way.

2. Roundtable Guest Reunion

Invite past guests for a reunion-style conversation. Pick a theme or create a game. Revisit the questions you asked guests in their previous episodes and see if their answers have changed.

3. Fan Shout-outs

Feature listener voice messages, emails, or social media posts where they share their favorite episodes, moments, or insights.

4. Listener Q&A

Host a Q&A with listeners. This could be live, or you could collect questions through email or social media. Address questions about the podcast, the topics you cover, or even personal questions to help your audience get to know you better.

5. Behind-the-Scenes

Talk about what goes into creating the podcast. How do you pick guests or episode topics? Share how far you've come by mentioning total downloads, listens, or your most popular episodes. You can also discuss challenges you’ve faced or changes you’ve made along the way.

6. Special Guest

Invite a special guest you’ve always wanted on the show. It could be someone from your podcast’s niche, a well-known figure, or even someone special to you, like a spouse, family member, or mentor.

7. Reverse Interview

Ask someone to interview you on your show. This could be a friend or a podcaster you admire. It’s a great way for your audience to get to know you better.

8. Special Segment or Game

Create a special segment or game for your milestone episode, like trivia or a quirky challenge.

9. Cross-promote with Another Podcaster

Collaborate with another podcaster for a celebratory crossover episode. Join forces with someone who shares a similar audience or theme for a joint episode, discussing your journeys in podcasting.

10. Announce a Giveaway

Create a special giveaway or contest for your listeners to celebrate the milestone episode. Offer items related to your podcast’s theme or the milestone itself.

11. Host a Live Episode

Host a live episode recording at your favorite venue or live-stream an episode where listeners can participate in real-time, ask questions, and interact with you during the recording.

Summary

Milestone episodes are a great opportunity to reflect on your podcasting journey, reveal plans for the future, and thank your community for listening and supporting. At a minimum, they allow you to explain shifts in the podcast or celebrate all the hard work that has gone into creating it.
